Florida Atlantic vs Oklahoma : Florida Atlantic Starts The NCAA College football First week 2018, Oklahoma Sooners who guided the Owls to an 11-3 record, the Conference USA championship and a victory in the Boca Raton Bowl in 2017. He has compiled a 46-24 mark and is in his seventh season as a collegiate head coach.
The Florida Atlantic Owls have spent much of their existence as a doormat Power 5 teams would use as a glorified scrimmage to get their legs under them to start the year.
That’s probably what Joe Castiglione thought he was getting when he scheduled this game. This one was announced when Florida Atlantic was coming off of a three-year stretch where it went a combined 9-27. The Owls surpassed that three-year win total last season alone after one of the most surprising hires of the 2017 offseason paid off in spades.
Well, Sooner fans aren’t going to like hearing this, but he’s got a little bit of Barry Sanders in him. Singletary has tremendous vision and lateral cutting ability.
Rarely does the first tackler bring him to the ground. You’ll also see that he can head into a pile of tackles and emerge on the other side. Not predicting that he’s going to run for 200 yards on Saturday, but he’ll certainly make a fun runs that will impress football fans.
Oklahoma is 21-0 all-time against teams currently in Conference USA. It owns 7-0 marks against North Texas and Rice and a 4-0 record against UTEP. OU has also registered wins over Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee and UAB.
Aside from some minor losses to injury, this team is healthy and eager to get the season started. On offense they look to keep momentum rolling, and Lincoln Riley said he thinks it could be a championship caliber group. There is plenty of room for improvement for the Sooner defense, but all signs point towards just that. The young guys have gained more experience and the endless amount of competition has seemingly motivated this squad. A week one win is certainly in the mix, but it will not come easily. It will be up to this crew to lock in and get off to a great start.
